  Repeat Dots: 12th January 2008

Issued to all members of The Woburn Sands Band. This list has many changes. Check carefully…

THIS LIST REPLACES ALL PREVIOUS LISTS: DESTROY THEM. PLEASE ENSURE THAT PLAYING MEMBERS USE ONLY "REPEAT DOTS" LISTS; NEVER USE "ENGAGEMENT DETAILS" LISTS, WHICH ARE PRODUCED ESPECIALLY FOR NON-PLAYING PATRONS OF THE WSB, AS THEY DO NOT NEED TO KNOW DETAILS OF ALL ENGAGEMENTS.

This list is as complete as I can make it on the date of issue, but changes and additions will still arrive: remember to check the white board each time you leave the Bandroom. Please advise me, in writing and as soon as you are able, of your unavailability.

Key: # = NEW since last issue; * = provisional; TBC = To Be Confirmed; WS= Woburn Sands; QOS=Ensemble from A Band

(Please remember: Playing Times are given in this list. You should always arrange to be at the venue at least 30 minutes before that to avoid creating problems for yourself or WSB. Finish times for concerts are often ‘best guesses’ only. I felt that you would appreciate as much warning as possible of probable bookings, so here it is!)

N.B. Most of our concerts are open to friends and family, and we encourage everyone to support these events. In a minority of cases, the event will be for a private function. If you are not sure whether friends and family are invited to attend a particular event, ask Len.

(I also produce, from time to time, an "Engagements List" which gives details of these events for friends.)

ALWAYS (PLEASE) CHECK THE WHITE BOARD EVERY TIME YOU LEAVE THE BANDROOM FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS.

Dear Reader, and (presumably) member of the Band,

If you are one of the (very) few who do not usually support the Drakeloe Series of concerts, given at The Stables, usually twice a year, please consider supporting our efforts this time? …We would certainly appreciate your support! We always need help with "Front-of-house", which is organised by Irene Davison, but just to have you there, enjoying the concert, would also be encouraging. Newly-promoted members of the "A" Band would particularly appreciate it. If you are unable to attend, please try nevertheless to sell tickets to others? We have booked Saturday 26th April 2008 for the next concert in the Series, which will be the forty-first. Tickets are available NOW. We really do need you with us, and we ask that you help to promote the concert to others, please?. If our programme or presentation is not to your liking, please let us know, and suggest improvements. If we do not sell all of the tickets, we could easily make a loss, and that would be problematic for us all. The Stables’ hire charges average £6.80 a seat, and we have to pay for all the seats, whether we sell them or not..Please support and help. We charge £10 per seat.

Len Jenkins

OUR BAND NEEDS US (ALL OF US)

If you are a member of The Woburn Sands Band, it must be sensible for you to do all you can to help the Band by selling tickets for our events (from fund-raising events and our own Annual Band Fayre to our flagship Drakeloe Series concerts) and encouraging everyone you can to come along to hear us. I find it difficult to understand how people who have belonged to the Band for some time do not support even the Drakeloe Series, as was the case with a small number recently. Luckily, the great majority do support as much as possible, and that encourages me, but I still worry - a little - about the few who seem to think we can run for their benefit without any input from them – quite apart from having to be grateful when they attend practices! (Don’t worry, I can’t mean you, can I?? Think now, when did you last help to raise funds for the Band…?)

Please remember that early advice of your non-availability for any date is useful; for weekends, it is essential; and is always best received BEFORE I am approached by patrons wishing to engage the Band. Please also remember that players do move from C Band into B Band, and from B Band into A Band – so even if you are in C Band at the moment, you should still check your availability for any or all of the engagements listed here, and should still inform me (always in writing, please) of your non-availability for any particular date. Some players still seem to wait until they see that their Band group is booked for an event before mentioning that they will not be able to play at it. This cannot be sensible. It would really help me, and would help to give a more professional aspect to our organisation, if everyone would understand how important it is to know when it will be difficult for us to field a full Band – it means that I can turn down the engagement at the outset, giving the impression (!) that we are well - organised. (We are, aren’t we?) Younger players should make a point of finding out as soon as possible when their family will be away on holiday, and letting me know that they will, as a result, be unavailable (newer members in particular).

AN IMPORTANT AND SERIOUS POINT… Yet surely obvious to all intelligent people…

PLEASE REMEMBER The WSB is YOU: YOU are The WSB. All of the time you wear our uniform you are representing the Band, whether on stage or off. NO misbehaviour nor rudeness can ever be excused while you are in uniform, as it will always bring the name of The Woburn Sands Band into disrepute.

Len Jenkins, Chairman.

Tickets for Drakeloe Series Concert 41

(7.30 pm on Saturday 26th April 2008 at The Stables) should be reserved NOW.

We (quite reasonably, I think) expect maximum support for these flagship concerts.

Ask Len for a Booking Form, please, and sell as many of the 400 seats as you can!

7 CDs are on sale in aid of our funds, priced at just £5.00 each. Most were recorded live at concerts in our "Drakeloe Series". The most recent addition is WSB CD007 "1712"- also available now.

Have you heard it?

Please sell as many as you can.

(You can order -and pay- on our website now.)
